Your amputee OT is emma

Amputation can create physical, emotional, and functional challenges, but with the right support you can adapt and lead a fulfilling life.  We can support you with skill-building, adaptation, and prosthesis training to empower you in your daily routines.  â€‹A key aspect of our work is teaching you how to use a prosthetic limb in different settings.  This process involves both functional training and psychological support to help you become confident and skilled with your prosthesis.   We guide you through the various stages of prosthetic use, from basic training like donning and doffing the prosthesis, to more advanced activities such as using the limb for specific tasks like cooking, or self-care.

Beyond prosthetic training, we can assess the home and community environments to identify any potential barriers that may impact your daily life.  We can recommend home adaptations to create a more suitable living space and can teach you adaptive techniques for daily activities, which may include using assistive devices or modifying tasks to suit your abilities.

Community reintegration is an important area we can support you with for example returning to work,  driving, participating in hobbies, and engaging in social activities. This may involve workplace adaptations or helping you navigate public spaces using your prosthesis.  We provide ongoing emotional support, helping you adjust to body image changes, cope with the psychological effects of limb loss, and build resilience.

Ultimately, we want to empower you to overcome any physical and emotional challenges you may experience to promote independence, confidence, and active participation in doing the things that are important to you.
