my OT story
I’ve been qualified as an occupational therapist (OT) since 1991, and my passion for helping people regain their independence and rebuild their lives has only grown over the years. In the early stages of my career, I worked in neuro-intensive care, inpatient, and community neurorehabilitation settings in the NHS, gaining invaluable experience in supporting individuals with complex needs.
Six years into my career, I set up and managed an occupational therapy service within what became a large case management company. Then, in 2012, I took a leap and established my own independent OT practice, where I’ve been offering personalised home, community, and work-based occupational therapy services ever since.
I provide home, community and work based occupational therapy assessment and intervention for people who have acquired brain injury and/or PTSD.
Over the years, I’ve been especially drawn to helping individuals navigate the emotional challenges that often accompany these conditions and impact on their daily lives. This led me to dual train as a counsellor 20 years ago, enabling me to better support the emotional and psychological needs of my clients within my occupational therapy role. I also developed a deep interest in motivational interviewing, an approach that encourages clients to tap into their own strengths and resources to make meaningful changes in their lives.
In 2021, I further expanded my skills by training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), a highly effective, NICE-approved approach for treating PTSD.
With over three decades of hands-on clinical experience, I’ve built a deep understanding of therapeutic techniques, interventions, and best practices to support the people I work with in the best way possible.
My unique blend of experience, training, and compassion allows me to work effectively with people facing a wide range of challenges impacting on their ability to function, including:
• cognitive and behavioural difficulties
• adjustment, loss, and changes in identity
• emotional needs, psychological trauma, and PTSD
• complex family dynamics
• engagement and motivation in the recovery process
I’m a firm believer in collaborative, multidisciplinary working, and I’m always eager to connect with others to provide the best possible support for my clients. Whether it’s helping someone adjust to life after a brain injury or working through the impact of trauma, my goal is always to empower my clients and help them reclaim their lives with confidence and resilience.
